May update

Here are the remaining pictures and updates from the month of May, which seems like a decade ago.  Enjoy!

Jeremy and the girls planted strawberries in our small garden.  Yum!

We met up with the Turners for pizza and ice cream!  Yum again!

Since my work gets so crazy in June we decided to take a half-day on a Friday and had a family day at the Newport Aquarium.  We had never been there before and the girls loved it!  Kate was all about the fish and sharks.  Afterwards we had dinner on the levee and my friend Meagan met up with us for a bit.  She gave me a big surprise revealing she is pregnant with twins.  So happy for Meagan and Ryan!

Most of these pictures are from my phone.  I was able to snap this one.  Love Kate trying to reach for the fish.

Clearly she wasn't as big as a fan of the fake penguin.  Ha!

The girls were finally able to meet their new baby cousin, Charlotte "Charley".  They both adore babies!

We have been very fortunate with a very mild summer, however, one weekend in May it was really hot.  We went to cheer Dylan on at his soccer game and Dawson and Addie tried to cool off under an umbrella.

I should frame this photo.  As our friend Kelly said, "Little sister problems."  Ha!

I snapped this photo of Addison getting her haircut by my friend Tracy.  Yes, that is a Bridal Magazine.  No, she is not 15 years old.

Chad's dad gave the four of us tickets to the Indy 500.  Thanks Dave!  We had never been before and it was quite an experience.  Let's just say it was very different than my early May trip to Churchill Downs for the Oaks.  We had an absolute blast!  Definitely something we will remember for a long time.  Unfortunately it was silly cold for Memorial Day weekend so we were pretty bundled up.  I guess the good thing is we didn't get sunburnt.  And I had fun cheering on a fellow Butler '03 grad, Ed Carpenter.

I went to Chicago the last weekend in May/early June for a Butler girls trip.  We stayed at Kristine and Jon's beautiful condo for the weekend.  We surprised our friend Hannah with a bachelorette party/lingerie shower.  She is having a small wedding in October.

We went shopping on Michigan Avenue, had dinner at the hot spot RPM (and have quite a story to tell about getting to the restaurant) and went out downtown afterwards.

And we even got a picture with some local firemen.  Ha!

Love this picture with one of my besties!

Looking back at this made me realize we had a pretty awesome May!

I'm back...ballet showcase

Hello, blog, it's me, Laura. :)  After being away from home for almost 5 weeks (4 weeks for work in Lexington and 5 days in Florida with the family) I am just now starting to feel like I am getting our lives back together.  I am still pretty worn out from the summer and I hope to take some time off just so I can feel a little refreshed.  Family vacations are awesome, just anything from relaxation. :)  I know most of you readers understand that.  We are now busy getting ready for our oldest to start Kindergarten in two weeks!  What?  When I am old enough to have a school-aged child?

Clearly I am VERY behind on blogging, but I am going to try my best to update this at least weekly so I can get back on track.  It is often difficult to keep up with, but I know I will continue to look back at this for years to come.  I debated on how to play catch up and so the first post is from Addison's dance showcase in May.  I hope to get some video on here from the showcase.  It is too cute!

Addie takes ballet in the spring at the Louisville Ballet School.  At the end of the semester they do a showcase for families.  It isn't a dance recital...a little less pressure and less formal.  I believe when they are 7 or so is when the recitals begin.  Addie took from there last year, but we had a family wedding so she wasn't able to participate.  She really enjoyed it this year and loved that all three sets of grandparents were there to support her.

Doesn't she look so big here?!

Kate did pretty well sitting through the showcase.  Of course she wanted to show off her moves right after.

Roses from Honey for her ballet showcase.  The other flowers are the ones we did as Mother's Day gifts.

Mother's Day

We had a great time on Mother's Day spending time with my side of the family.  This was the first time my parents have been in town for the holiday so we enjoyed spending some time with them.  It was a chilly yet sunny day so we decided to go downtown.

We first headed to the Big Four bridge.

And while we waited for a table at Tumbleweed on the river we played at the park.

And the kids when rolling down this big hill.

I LOVE this picture of Dawson I snapped!

After dinner we went out on the deck and looked at the ducks.

It was a great family day!

Early May pics

I move to Lexington on Monday to live there for a month for my work. It is pretty intense leading up to the summer program and during, but I want to go ahead and try to get some pictures up this week or it will be at least 5 weeks or so before I can again.  Here are some pics from early May.

I won boxed seat Oaks tickets through my work!  For those not from Louisville, the Oaks is a big filly (female horses) race on the day before Derby and it is almost as popular as the Derby.  Churchill Downs is decorated in pink because some proceeds go to Susan G Komen that day.  I found out 24 hours in advance that I won the tickets.  Jeremy had too much going on at work so he wasn't able to go with me.  I knew the two calls I needed to make.  The first to my brother because I knew he would want to go and could make it work out in 24 hrs (I mean, he works for a wine and spirits company so I am sure it could even be called doing "business" that day). The second call was to Robyn.  Robyn is a good friend from high school and she and her family go to Oaks and Derby every year.  She had the perfect dress (pink for Oaks) and hat for me to borrow.  It was beautiful weather and a fun day!  We had fun on Derby day going to a couple of family parties.

The girls made Derby hats at daycare that week and wanted to pose for a picture together.

We had a family craft night the Friday before Mother's Day to make crafts for the grandmothers.  I have lots of pictures on Jeremy's phone from the process and maybe . It was a lot of the fun and the girls enjoyed it.  And of course strong wood glue and wood clamps were used to make sure the ribbon at the top of the pots did not come off.  Gotta love my husband!

The next day we went to Sammy's first birthday party.  They had a pirate bubble ship come to the house.  Robyn and Shane (Sammy's parents) got into the theme a bit.  Ha!

Kate loved playing with the bubbles!  Unfortunately she loved it so much that she got soap all in her eyes and baby girl's eyes were burning.  She would keep rubbing them and it would make it worse.  She was a trooper and didn't fuss very long.

Pretty cool, huh?

They then had a woman come do some awesome, intricate face painting.

Our butterfly.  A close second to Grammy's face painting at Addison's princess party.  :)

Kate was up next and Addie said she wanted a buttery too.  No surprise. It was so sweet because Kate sat there, followed directions and patiently waited for the woman to finish.

I love this because I think she is taking it all in because she has never seen her face like this.

They both look so different.

I didn't get many pictures of the other kids, but here is one of crazy Dane (Laura's son) playing with his balloon sword. It was a great birthday party and it was wonderful to spend time with friends we don't get to see very often.
